The "Redbreast" name itself, first officially appearing in 1912 for a 12-year-old whiskey, was coined by Gilbey's chairman, an avid ornithologist, in reference to the Robin Redbreast. Though nearly lost during the 20th century's decline of Irish whiskey, Redbreast was triumphantly relaunched by Irish Distillers in 1991, solidifying its status as the world's definitive Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey.
